John Dalby lived and worked in York and his father, David, was one of Yorkshire’s best known equine and sporting painters.  

As wealth and power of the aristocracy declined in the C19th so did their obsession with painting their private estates.  In its place came a new trend; capturing everyday life, paintings of public race tracks and popular winning horses.

Is this a Victorian thoroughbred or a modern fake?
