Mrs. Paine and her Daughters

When Lord Leverhulme bought this work, it featured just two girls playing the piano.  During restoration in 1935, the girls’ older mother was rediscovered; she had been painted out by a dealer at the beginning of the C20 who thought that the painting would sell better without Mrs Paine in it!
