Valette was a French Impressionist painter who moved to Manchester in 1905.  He’s best known for his nostalgic images of the city and for being one of Lowry’s art teachers.

Lowry spoke highly of Valette: ‘He had a freshness and a breadth of experience that exhilarated his students.’

But is the freshness here the work of a master or just new paint?!
