The Lord Gave and the Lord Taketh Away, Blessed Be the Name of the Lord

Art and illustration overlapped as many Victorian paintings drew on stories in literature.  Holl’s painting illustrates a scene from a popular novel, Dinah Craik’s ‘The Head of the Family’ (1852) when a family gathers after the funeral of their parents.

But is this Holl’s original or a hoax?
