The Morning after the Storm

This painting is inspired by the great storm of 21 November 1840.

Turner was mocked for his extensive use of the colour ‘Indian yellow’ which was just invented and dominates this painting.  He applied paint in innovative ways; using the palm of the hand, a palette knife or his fingernails to create an effect.

Are these genuine Turner techniques?
